Not every electronic fault can be handled remotely. When the cause has not yet been identified, or when a driver-assistance camera or radar needs recalibrating, the car has to come to the workshop. Electronic diagnostics: finding the cause before replacing a part
A warning light, an intermittent fault or a loss of power does not always point to the faulty part. Electronic diagnostics means reading fault codes, but also checking sensors, power supplies and communication between control units, to identify the real fault before replacing anything.
ADAS calibration: driver-assistance cameras and radars
Adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist: these systems rely on cameras and radars whose alignment must be precise. After a windscreen replacement, a collision or work on the front axle, they must be recalibrated to the manufacturer's procedure.
Why the car has to come to the workshop
A diagnosis is carried out on the complete car with its systems running; ADAS calibration requires the car positioned in front of calibration targets. These services therefore cannot be done by sending a part. If the diagnosis points to a control unit, body control unit or instrument cluster, it can then be repaired by post.

- Because a fault code does not always point to the faulty part: a sensor, a wiring harness or a power supply can cause the same symptoms as a failed control unit. A diagnosis avoids replacing a part that works.
