Where is the pin code stored on Peugeot / Citroën?

The pin code is stored in the BSI (Body Control Unit) of your vehicle, usually in a protected area of its EEPROM memory. A synchronised copy also exists in the engine ECU (for the immobiliser authentication procedure). This is why, when replacing a BSI or an engine ECU, these two modules must be re-paired with the vehicle's common pin code — without this code, the immobiliser blocks the start. This is also why, for remote reading, we request the engine ECU AND the BSI to be sent.

What is the difference between PSA pin code and Renault pin code?

Technically, both are 4-digit codes used for the same purpose: authenticating a car key or an ECU with the immobiliser. The differences lie in the reading method and tools: for Renault, reading is done via CLIP tool on the UCH; for PSA, via Lexia/PP2000 or DiagBox on the BSI. The generation algorithms also differ. This justifies having distinct services, each requiring specific skills and tools.

Is my PSA vehicle Immo II or Immo IV?

Generally: Immo II for models prior to 2004 (older 206, pre-phase II 307, Xsara, C5 I). Immo IV for models from 2005 onwards (207, 308, 408, 508, C3 II/III, C4 I/II, DS3, DS4, etc.). Some transition models (2003-2005) may be equipped with either depending on options. If in doubt, simply provide your registration and year: we identify the exact system from manufacturer data.

Can the PSA pin code be obtained remotely?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but be aware of a common misconception: the PSA pin code CANNOT be calculated from the VIN. It is stored in the vehicle's units and must be extracted from them. Remote reading is therefore 100% possible, but it requires sending us the engine ECU (ECU) AND the BSI disassembled: the pin code being synchronised between these two modules, we extract it by directly reading their memory, then we transmit it to you — without having to move the vehicle. You can also, if you prefer, bring the car to our workshop.

What documents are required?

Three mandatory documents: (1) valid vehicle registration document (front and back in colour), (2) ID of the registration document holder (ID card or passport), (3) VIN of the vehicle (17-character number, visible on registration document field E) — used for verification, not for code calculation. If you are not the holder (company vehicle, parent, non-co-holder spouse), a written authorisation from the holder + copy of their ID are also required. No exceptions: this is the legal condition for us to provide a pin code.

How long does the service take?

Timeframes depending on the method: in workshop via Lexia/PP2000/DiagBox tool: 15 to 30 minutes, same-day retrieval. Via sending the units (engine ECU + BSI, direct EEPROM reading): 48 working hours after receipt. The code is transmitted to you by secure email (or handed over in person at the workshop).

Can a complete PSA car key also be programmed with you?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer complete car key coding in the workshop: you bring your vehicle and the new car key (or we provide it depending on your model), and we code it using the pin code. Price varies by model — on average €150 to €300 all-inclusive (new car key + coding). This service requires a visit to the workshop and a prior quote. For certain PSA car keys with specific transponders (DS3, DS4, Peugeot 308 II with Keyless), the supply time may be a few days.

What if my Peugeot / Citroën dealership refuses to give me the pin code?

PSA dealerships sometimes have restrictive policies: some refuse to provide the pin code for security reasons, others charge very high fees (100-200 €), and they only do it in person.
