Virginization EPS — Electric Power Steering all brands
The EPS (Electric Power Steering) is one of the most paired components of a modern vehicle: it communicates with the engine ECU, ABS, ESP, and often contains the VIN coded in its memory. When you acquire a used EPS, a new pre-coded EPS, or if your EPS has been locked after a failed coding attempt, it needs to be "virginized" — that is, erase the previous vehicle's data so it can be freely paired with your vehicle.
At Incarline, we virginize your EPS column or its ECU for a flat fee of €169 — DHL pickup and return included, 2-year warranty. The part is returned to you in virgin condition, ready to be installed on your vehicle and coded normally.
When should an EPS be virginized?
- Purchase of a used EPS from a scrapyard — it contains the VIN and parameters of the original vehicle
- New EPS purchased from a dealership or in the market, already pre-coded
- Locked EPS after a failed coding attempt by an unequipped professional
- Reinstallation on another vehicle after inter-vehicle transfer
- Recovery of an EPS after theft or dispute requiring a reset
- After an electronic repair (replacement of internal components)

Typical symptoms of a poorly coded or non-virginized EPS
- Steering hard to maneuver (assistance not working)
- Steering warning light (yellow or red) illuminated on the dashboard
- Message on the instrument cluster: “Power steering fault”, “Power steering failure”
- Message “Non-compliant VIN” or “Incorrect EPS code” on diagnostic tool
- Typical fault codes: U2510, U2515, C1554, C1551, C1555 (VIN / coding conflict)
- Vehicle enters limp mode with ESP refusal
Why virginize rather than attempt direct coding?
On most modern vehicles, attempting to code a pre-paired used EPS results in a VIN conflict that permanently locks the EPS. A single failed attempt can lock the part — it will then need to be virginized anyway, with the risk of also disrupting the engine ECU and ESP of your vehicle.
Virginization before reinstallation ensures:
- A clean coding on the first attempt on your vehicle
- No risk of bricking (permanent lock) of the EPS
- 100% compatibility even on multi-locked EPS by several attempts
- An assurance of functionality of the assistance from the first start
Why €169 instead of free virginization at the scrapyard?
EPS virginization is not a simple software reset — it requires direct access to the EEPROM/flash memory of the EPS ECU, with a specific programmer depending on the brand (TRW, JTEKT, Koyo, ZF LS). Scrapyards do not have this equipment and cannot virginize. Dealerships generally refuse to virginize a used EPS as a precaution. Our €169 package includes DHL pickup and return, technical intervention, and a 2-year warranty.
How it works
- Check the reference of your EPS (label on the column or EPS ECU) and send us a photo if compatibility is in doubt
- Order the virginization on our site (€169 incl. VAT)
- Remove your EPS (or the EPS ECU alone if your model allows) or have it removed by a professional
- DHL picks up the part from your location on the date you choose
- Complete virginization within 48 working hours: data extraction, EEPROM erasure, return to virgin state, non-conflict test
- Return at our expense, EPS ready to be coded on your vehicle at the next start
