TCU Cloning DSG / S-Tronic — Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Škoda
The automatic gearboxes DSG (Volkswagen/Seat/Škoda) and S-Tronic (Audi) from the VAG group integrate a TCU (Transmission Control Unit) also called Mechatronic — a hydraulic and electronic ECU that controls gear shifting. This TCU is notoriously prone to failures starting from 80,000 – 150,000 km: jerks, empty shifts, limp mode activation (3rd or 5th gear forced), refusal to start, flashing PRNDS light.
When the TCU is physically dead and non-repairable, cloning is the only alternative to replacement at the dealership (which costs €1,500 to €3,000 TCU + programming). At Incarline, we transfer the original data (calibration, ECU pairing, gearbox adaptations) from your faulty TCU to a compatible donor TCU, for a flat rate of €249. DHL pickup and return included, 2-year warranty.
Supported DSG TCU / Mechatronic
- 7-speed dry DSG — DQ200 (0AM): Golf V/VI/VII 1.4 TSI, Polo GTI, Audi A1/A3 8P/8V, Seat Ibiza FR/Cupra, Škoda Fabia RS/Octavia 1.4 TSI — the most widespread DSG
- 6-speed wet DSG — DQ250 (02E): Golf IV/V/VI R, Golf GTI, Passat, Audi A3/TT 3.2, Audi Q3 — more robust, but prone to solenoid failures
- 7-speed wet DSG — DQ380 (0GC): Golf VII/VIII GTI/R, Audi TT 8S, Audi S3 8V
- 7-speed high-performance DSG — DQ500 (0BT/0BH): Audi S3, RS3, TT RS, Q3 quattro, Volkswagen T5/T6 DSG
- 7-speed dry S-Tronic — DL382 (0CK): Audi A4/A5/A6/A7 B8/B9 FWD
- 7-speed longitudinal wet S-Tronic — DL501 (0B5): Audi A4/A5 quattro, A6 quattro, S4, RS4, Q5, Q7 SQ5
- Extended market versions: references 02E927770, 0AM325025H, 0AM927769D, 0B5927156, 0BH325025F, etc.
Typical Symptoms of a Faulty DSG / S-Tronic TCU
- Flashing PRNDS light with message “Gearbox fault”
- Entering limp mode: gearbox stuck in 3rd or 5th gear forced
- Total refusal to start — message “Selector in P” even though the selector is correctly positioned
- Jerks, shakes, slipping during gear shifts
- Long delay between selecting R/D and actual engagement (clutch slipping)
- VCDS / ODIS fault codes: P17BF, P173E, P189C, P0841, P0842, P0843, P084F, P1895
- Abnormal grinding / clunking noises during gear shifts
- Battery draining while parked (TCU remains in abnormal active standby)
Why Clone Instead of Replace or Repair?
- New Volkswagen / Audi TCU: €1,500 to €3,000 depending on model, + mandatory programming at the dealership (€150-400), + ECU adaptation and gearbox learning (complete service €2,500-4,500)
- Direct used TCU: impossible — original vehicle coding (CS code Immo IV), VIN stored in EEPROM, incompatible calibration
- TCU Repair: possible for certain failures (solenoids, electronic board) — not covered by this service, contact us for a preliminary diagnosis if unsure
- Incarline Cloning: €249 incl. VAT all-inclusive, donor TCU provided by you (new from dealership or used from scrapyard), no dealership intervention needed, gearbox learning retained identically
- 2-year warranty
How TCU Cloning Works
Cloning involves transferring the entire content of your faulty TCU's memory to a physically functional donor TCU. The cloned content includes:
- Engine-gearbox calibration (shift point mapping, torque curves)
- ECU / Immo IV pairing (Component Security) — your vehicle recognizes the cloned TCU as the original TCU
- Adaptations of clutch and gear shifting learned over time
- VIN, mileage, and serial number of the original vehicle
- Specific parameters for the engine type (PPS/PD/TDI/TSI)
You must therefore send us two TCUs:
- Your original TCU / Mechatronic (the faulty one) — even if its electronic part is damaged, the EEPROM memory often remains readable
- A compatible donor TCU — strictly identical manufacturer reference (e.g., 0AM325025H), obtained either new from VW/Audi or used from an auto scrapyard
Compatibility check: send us a photo of your TCU's label (visible reference number) via our contact form — we confirm compatible donor references for free within 24 hours.
How It Works
- Check the reference of your TCU and obtain a compatible donor TCU
- Order the cloning on our website (€249 incl. VAT)
- Remove your TCU / Mechatronic — located on the DSG gearbox, left inner side on most models. Delicate operation: we recommend a VAG specialized garage
- DHL picks up the two TCUs from your location on the date you choose
- Diagnosis, cloning, and bench testing within 72 working hours
- Return at our expense of the cloned TCU + your original TCU, ready to reinstall without dealership intervention
