By tailgating the vehicle of the motorist who pays, the fraudster hopes to pass the barrier with them without spending anything. A dangerous method, liable to a fine of €75. To further deter dishonest drivers, this fine has been multiplied by five. An amount that further burdens the car budget for the year 2021.
A revised fine for controlled toll fraud
Previously, in case of toll fraud, you had to pay €75 plus €20 in administrative fees. Now, you no longer pay a 2nd category fine, but a 4th category fine. And that changes everything! The amount to be paid is now €375, and €90 in administrative fees.
Toll with or without barrier: what difference for frauds?
The barrier-free toll, or free flow, is currently being tested on the A4 and A10. This concept allows for increased fluidity on highways while promising to eliminate traffic jams at tolls.
In terms of fines, the rules are different depending on the toll you pass through.
For a toll with a barrier, you receive a payment notice of €90, an amount to which toll fees are added. You then have 2 months to pay this amount. Beyond this period, you are obliged to pay, in addition, the fine of €375.
If you commit fraud at a barrier-free toll, the administrative fees are only €10. If you do not pay within 15 days, the amount increases to €90. 45 days later, without payment on your part, you will have to add €375. In case of repeat offense (if you commit fraud more than 5 times in a year), you will have to pay a fine of €7,500.
