In 13 years, car manufacturers will no longer be allowed to produce petrol and diesel vehicles. This was announced by the European Commission as part of its Green Deal. The goal is to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In short, from 2035, you will no longer be able to buy a new combustion vehicle. Some brands have announced that they will not wait for this deadline. Jaguar and Volvo have indicated that they will stop producing combustion cars from 2025. Bentley is committed to halting its production from 2026. We will have to wait until 2030 for Mini, Mercedes, and Fiat.
End of Combustion Vehicles in 2035
Increased Traffic Restrictions
Initially planned for 2040, the end of combustion vehicle production is announced for 2035. But before this deadline, diesel and petrol vehicles will face traffic restrictions.
Short-term Traffic Restrictions
To encourage the French to rethink their car purchases now, the most polluting vehicles will be banned from certain areas from 2025. This will be the case in cities with more than 150,000 inhabitants. To drive within low emission zones (LEZ), you will need to present a Crit’Air 1, 2, or green sticker, with the green sticker dedicated to electric or hydrogen vehicles.
Some cities, like Paris, have made even more radical decisions. Thus, from 2024, the Greater Paris metropolis will ban Crit’Air 2 vehicles from circulating in its LEZ to more quickly reduce air pollution. To date, 11 cities have implemented LEZs, such as Grenoble, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Rouen, Lyon, and Montpellier. 45 cities are expected to have implemented LEZs by 2025.
Electric Vehicle: Massive Development of Charging Stations Essential
Today, the European Union encourages the purchase of electric vehicles. However, it appears that they still have limitations. Naturally, it is impossible to ignore their range, which remains a barrier to purchase for many motorists. But the biggest problem today is the charging stations. In France, there are 45,000 stations (the government had promised 100,000 by the end of 2021). The European Commission aims to install one million stations by 2025, 3.5 million by 2030.
TotalEnergies wants to contribute to the massive development of charging stations and announces that the French will have access to a station on expressways by the end of 2023
Hybrid Vehicles?
The diagnostic device can detect the slightest anomaly in the vehicle, even if no warning light has come on. The technician then only needs to perform the necessary interventions to resolve the issue. Once the repair or maintenance is completed, the maintenance indicators are reset. The auto diagnostic tool can also be used for other actions:
- resetting valve sensors, setting the tire pressure target;
- reprogramming on-board computers or ECUs after part maintenance;
- changing electric parking brakes, replacing brake fluid.
