Automatic radars could soon detect it
The government is working on the possibility of checking the validity of your technical inspection through automatic radars. Already capable of verifying if you are insured, the radars will soon have an eye on everything.
Verification of technical inspection by radars: a request that is not new
While it seems that the government is studying the subject to penalize motorists who are not up to date, the idea was launched a few years ago. It was the LREM deputy from Sarthe, Damien Pichereau, who made this request in 2019 when the detection of lack of insurance by automatic radars was introduced. Jean-Baptiste Djebarri, Minister Delegate for Transport, promised the deputy to examine this possibility.
How to check the validity of technical inspections using automatic radars?
Today, the National Council of Automotive Professionals estimates that 560,000 vehicles are driving on French roads without an up-to-date technical inspection. And this does not include drivers who are slightly behind on the scheduled inspection date. However, this inspection is intended to ensure that the vehicles on our roads offer a sufficient level of safety.
At first glance, verifying the validity of the technical inspection seems simple. Since 2019, these radars have the ability to verify that you are insured. This results from a real in-depth work to centralize the files of all insurances. Thus, as soon as you are flashed, a verification with the centralized insurance file is carried out. For the technical inspection, this file already exists. The Central Technical Organization (OTC) has all the information.
However, there remains an obstacle to overcome, and not a minor one. It would be necessary to amend the law for the UTAC-OTC to be authorized to transmit the information.
But that's not all. If a cross-check with the Vehicle Registration System file allows not to penalize a vehicle less than 4 years old that is not required to undergo a technical inspection, what about re-inspections? In principle, the sticker is no longer up to date. However, motorists have a period of 2 months to carry out the necessary repairs.
What penalty for lack of technical inspection?
Whether your lack of inspection is detected by automatic radars or by law enforcement, the penalty is the same. You face a fine of €135. This fixed fine can be reduced to €90 or increased to €375, or even €750.
Automatic radars, beware of car insurance
It has now been 3 years since automatic radars can verify if you are insured when you are flashed. Also, beyond the fine provided for the traffic offense, a fixed fine of €500 has been established. This can be reduced to €400 and increased to €1,000.
The IncarLine advantage:
Do not risk being penalized because you have not passed your technical inspection.
